Discussing Youth Land Governance and Urbanization Challenges, USAID

USAID organized a brown-bag meeting to discuss the challenges, issues ad concerns young people face in land governance in the context of an urbanizing world. Our Youth and Land project co-coordinators from Brazil, Zimbabwe and Kenya attended and presented the research gaps in the youth dimensions of land in their respective countries.
Round Table Dialogue on Investing in Young People

Organized by the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, the round table involved the different UN entities whose work tackle youth issues and how together, as the Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development (IANYD), they could support the UN System Wide Action Plan (SWAP) for youth which will ensure that within the UN, young people are included in decision making at all levels of development processes.
Making Youth Participation in the UN Sustainable - Open IANYD Meeting

In this 2-day open discussion workshop, the Youth Envoy on Youth and the different UN entities of the IANYD took questions from youth representatives from different organizations and countries on the ways in which young people’s participation in the UN system can be  sustainable.
Arab states change agents to meet on land and tenure security options

The Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) partners, UN-Habitat, the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and the University of East London (UEL) are set to hold a learning event on land and tenure security in the Muslim World in Cairo, Egypt between 27-30 May 2013.
Young Land Surveyors Train in STDM Use and Application

Seventeen young land surveyors recently gained hands-on experience in the use and application of Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM) in Abuja, Nigeria, 4-6 May 2013. Directly preceding the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Working Week conference, the Training of Trainers (TOTs) was organised by the Global Land Tool Network Secretariat which is hosted by UN-Habitat, International Federation of Surveyors (FIG), FIG Foundation and Young Surveyors Network (YSN).

UN-HABITAT has opened an office in the eastern Congolese border town of Goma as part of a joint United Nations programme to assist people forced to flee during years of conflict in the Lake Kivu district. The office will work to help resolve land disputes.

Some 30 participants from the West Africa region last week congregated at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), for a an eye-opening training on transparency in land administration. Organised jointly by UN-HABITAT and the International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) the workshop attracted participants from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Experts to discuss transparency in land administration

UN-HABITAT and the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN), in cooperation with the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) have held a three-day expert group meeting on Transparency in Land administration at the UN headquarters in Nairobi , Kenya on 29-31 January 2007. Land remains a highly complex and contentious issue, UN-HABITAT said in a statement. “It is a critical element in achieving target 11 of the Millennium Development Goals on “Cities without slums”. It is also a critical element in the wider development agenda. There is a clear and urgent gap between the vast demand for skills in this area, and the capacity to deliver at different levels.
