In June 2011 a 10-month internal staff development programme was launched to deepen the knowledge and skills of UN-HABITAT staff in urban planning, urban legislation and governance, urban economy and finance, and slum upgrading. The programme includes in-depth sessions for UN-HABITAT's experts as well as broader training for other colleagues exposed to the topics for the first time. |

Some 30 participants from the West Africa region last week congregated at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), for a an eye-opening training on transparency in land administration. Organised jointly by UN-HABITAT and the International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) the workshop attracted participants from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia. |

| Experts to discuss transparency in land administration |

Nairobi, 26 Jan 07
UN-HABITAT and the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN), in cooperation with the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) have held a three-day expert group meeting on Transparency in Land administration at the UN headquarters in Nairobi , Kenya on 29-31 January 2007.
Land remains a highly complex and contentious issue, UN-HABITAT said in a statement. “It is a critical element in achieving target 11 of the Millennium Development Goals on “Cities without slums”. It is also a critical element in the wider development agenda. There is a clear and urgent gap between the vast demand for skills in this area, and the capacity to deliver at different levels. |
