The Training and Capacity Building Branch works mainly with local governments, civil society organizations, local government/urban development ministries, local government associations, national associations and national training and capacity building institutions.
One of TCBB’s immediate objective is to improve and strengthen linkages between demand and supply side players through partnerships and networking for determining key capacity building needs, advancing innovative approaches to capacity building based on shared experiences and building networks and partnerships for implementing regional and national capacity building strategies.
As a strategic approach, it focuses on strengthening national training institutions by facilitating their participation in regional ToTs, involving them as lead actors in national adaptation of UN-HABITAT’s training manuals, and helping them to mainstream capacity-building tools into their curricula.
When funding opportunities allow and the situation promises greater multiplier effects, UN-HABITAT provides modest financial support in the form of small grants to national institutions to catalyze such efforts and leverage resources.
