A detailed Water and Environmental Sanitation Improvement Plan has been developed for Tigni during the pre-testing exercise of the tools for mapping the poor, gender assessment and IEE. It is one of the poorest settlements in the Madhyapur Thimi Municipality where 88.4% of the population lives below the poverty line. Once the plan has been implemented, it is expected to improve the lives of 800 people in the settlement.

In the absence of any wastewater management plan for the Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, sewer lines are laid ad hoc every year and the wastewater is discharged into streams and irrigation canals. Therefore, a comprehensive plan to manage wastewater in the municipality will be developed. This will be an example for other municipalities to adopt integrated urban environmental sanitation practices through comprehensive wastewater management plan.
