Nairobi, 4 Nov 13
Seeking to further enhance the voice of youth in its work and activities, UN-Habitat has entered into a partnership with the Norwegian Children and Youth Council (LNU), an umbrella organization for more than 90 non-governmental organizations and more than 500,000 young people for children and youth. Cooperation with the representational body will help UN-Habitat to better incorporate young people in decision making at local, national and international levels. The Council has valuable experience from the Norwegian model of how youth and youth-related civil society participate in key decision making processes and hopes to take these lessons forward in its work.

This is the first time a UN organization has entered into partnership with the Norwegian Children and Youth Council and this will give Norwegian youth a unique opportunity to increase their voice in the UN.

"We have a common goal to increase youth participation. We live in a young world, where over 60 percent of the population is young. We look forward to working together with LNU to create a good framework for young people's role in our work",said Deputy Director of UN- Habitat, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, at the signing of the agreement.

The Head of the LNU, Stian Seland, said, "We see this as a great recognition for LNU’s international work over many years. This partnership will help to strengthen our work with youth participation at a global level."
