Water and Sanitation Trust Fund
 

UN-HABITAT launched the Water and Sanitation Trust Fund in October 2002 to help governments meet their commitment to the water target of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). That target seeks “to reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and sanitation by the year 2015”. The Trust Fund’s activities are directed at creating smarter water policies and increased investment in water and sanitation for the urban poor.

UN-HABITAT’s Executive Director in talks with Dutch Government

UN-HABITAT’s Executive Director Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka last week held wide-ranging talks with officials of the new Dutch government. In the first high level encounters between UN-HABITAT and the new Dutch government, Mrs. Tibaijuka called upon Mrs. Ella Vogelaar, the Minister for Housing, Communities and Integration, the Mayor of the Hague, Mr. Willem Deetman and other officials.

Major Norwegian boost for UN-HABITAT water and sanitation trust fund
Nairobi, 11 Oct 05
Norway will grant UN-HABITAT’s Water and Sanitation Trust Fund nearly US$ 7 million in 2005 to help alleviate the water and sanitation crisis confronting millions of slum dwellers across Africa and Asia.
