Roxas: Building skills to rebuild communities

While national and international assistance to the Philippines supports the relief efforts in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan by distributing shelter emergency kits, running emergency centres and setting up transitional shelters, members of the affected population rebuild their homes, in most cases, without sufficient funds, skills and experience.

Three Asian cities get UN-HABITAT awards for women-friendly policies

Three Asian cities have been named as winners of UN-HABITAT awards for their women-friendly policies. The cities are Cebu and Naga in the Philippines, and Visakhapatnam in India. The award ceremony marking International Women’s Day was held with the mayors of the three cities on Monday, 8 March 2004.
