Communities are in need of better shelter, nutrition and clean water to prevent a further spread of acute respiratory infections in the coming months. As foreign medical teams that have focused on trauma injuries begin to leave the country, gaps will occur for basic health care. Operational healthfacilities are reportedly overstretched, and there is still overall poor coverage of services.

Roxas: Building skills to rebuild communities

While national and international assistance to the Philippines supports the relief efforts in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan by distributing shelter emergency kits, running emergency centres and setting up transitional shelters, members of the affected population rebuild their homes, in most cases, without sufficient funds, skills and experience.
