On Monday August 31st UNEP and UN-HABITAT, as Co-Chairs of the UN Inter-Agency Committee for the Decade on Education for Sustainable Development, are hosting a Symposium on Climate Change Education and Sustainable Cities in Nairobi. The Symposium, which will feature Speakers such as Nobel laureate Wangari Mathai, will bring together external experts, including resource persons, from the East Africa region, to discuss and identify the opportunities and challenges, and existing and possible responses, with regards to promoting Education for Sustainable urban Development. It will particularly look at the challanges of mainstreaming climate change education, in the context of building sustainable cities. The outcomes of the Symposium will feed into the working meeting of the UN Inter-Agency Committee which will meet under the auspices of UNESCO, the UN lead agency for the Decade, on the 2nd of September, in Nairobi. |
