Participants at the Global Forum on Youth and ICT for Development welcomed the chance to attend the forthcoming Web for Development Conference in Nairobi 28-30 November. At a workshop on Youth, ICTs and urbanization, young speakers suggested that access to information and communication technology be treated as a basic service and proposed that all new housing incorporate wiring for Internet connectivity, together with the electricity and water supply. Web4Dev will explore Internet solutions for youth, the biggest group of Internet users. The conference will feature a wide range of interesting topics. These include publishing in multiple languages, using the web to help disaster victims, broadening to access to education through e-learning to the widest possible audience, using social networking to promote good governance, and using the Internet to help the disabled. The conference will also provide training in new Internet technology and uses. The conference will draw a wide range of exhibitors from the private sector, civil society and major UN agencies keen to showcase their latest innovations |
