Bridging the digital and language divides – Internet Speech (USA) will present innovative technology that allows anyone to access the Internet using a phone and user's own voice, without a computer. Users can surf any website, search, send, receive, compose and reply to emails and do much more just using their voice and any phone. Users basically talk and listen to the Internet. The system uses a "rendering" engine that automatically render today's Visual Internet content into short, precise, easily navigable and meaningful audio content. One Source: The Secretariat of the United Nations Chief Executive Board (CEB) will present a business case for a unified United Nations system Internet presence to enhance knowledge sharing and make it easers for UN system partners and the public to find accurate, relevant and up-to-date information. Tanzania’s Socio-Economic Database (TSED): A case study on the Government of Tanzania national database, an adaptation of the DevInfo global software for monitoring Millennium Development Goals. In Tanzania TSED is used to monitor the National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty and supports the National Bureau of Statistics’ mandate to produce and disseminate data.   15. Tools for connecting young people: UNICEF will present its work partners to develop innovative tools to connect young people who don’t have access to the Internet with those who do. These include using mobile phones to collect data from young people, bootable USB sticks that turn any laptop into a radio station, and technologies to allow people with landlines or mobile phones to record stories onto the Internet. The session will explore strategies and new technologies for connecting those furthest from the traditional Internet, review best practices and new possibilities.

  20. Languages other than English: The International Monetary Fund will show new ways of communicating in languages other than English through its website. The session will explain how content in Arabic, Chinese, Japanes and Russian, for instance, can be easily accessed by users of those languages and demonstrate the impact and reactions of a growing international audience.
