Governments Oversight

Governments oversee the work of the UN-HABITAT.  Every two years, UN-HABITAT's work and relationships with its partners are examined in detail by a Governing Council composed of 58 member countries of the United Nations.  Read more about UN-HABITAT’s Governing Council

UN-HABITAT runs more than 130 technical cooperation programmes and projects in over 60 countries.  See our activities in the different countries


Funding

Most of UN-HABITAT’s income is in the form of voluntary contributions from governments and inter-governmental donors. Other partners, like local authorities, the private sector, multi-lateral organizations and other United Nations bodies provide funding for specific programmes.See trends in donor contributions.


Advocacy

On the first Monday of every October, UN-HABITAT and its partners celebrate World Habitat Day to raise awareness of urban and shelter issues.World Habitat Day presents a good occasion for governments to present their urban development and housing policies, and progress being made to address shelter and urban challenges.
