The 18th Session of Human Settlements Commission was held from 16-21 February 2001 and focused on the themes of Security of Tenure and Urban Governance. It also discussed the work programme of the Commission on Human Settlements which was transformed into the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT by the General Assembly in its resolution 56/206 of 21 December 2001. The Assembly also decided, in the same resolution, to transform the Commission on Human Settlements to the Governing Council of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT.
