UN-Habitat delivers training for local government institutions in Uraguay

UN-Habitat, in partnership with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has delivered important training for local government training institutions in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.  20 participants attended the event from municipal organizations, NGOs, universities and other institutions that provide training to local governments throughout the region.

Sri Lankan women break traditional barriers by training as masons  
Northern Province, Sri Lanka , 27 Sept 13
Women from Sri Lanka’s conflict-affected Northern Province are breaking traditional barriers by moving into previously male-dominated occupations in the construction sector. By engaging in vocational skills training programmes in masonry and carpentry, both male and female youth are empowered to pursue skilled occupations. Masonry and carpentry have been traditionally dominated by men with very few women engaged in these sectors.
