The Private Sector at the World Urban Forum 5
"For the first time in a World Urban Forum, three main events were dedicated or closely related to the Business Sector’s participation and commitment to sustainable urban development: a Business Caucus, a Business Roundtable and the launch of the World Urban Campaign. A large number of representatives from the industry and private sector attended the events, with high-level key speakers exposing their views and debating on urbanization challenges. The WUF5 marks the beginning of a new era in terms of public-private partnerships towards addressing urban sustainable development and global challenges. UN-HABITAT Executive Director, Dr Anna Tibaijuka, Hilary Clinton, US Secretary of States, in her video statement at the closing ceremony, and other key speakers, referred to public-private partnerships as a priority to face the urban challenges and the world’s sustainable development. Ms. Clinton also pointed out to the need for strengthening governance and putting in place innovative financing tools for local authorities."
