The Global Alliance for EcoMobility is a cross-sectoral partnership for the integrated promotion of walking and cycling with interfaces to public transport, private cars and the housing & service sector to reduce citizens’ dependency on the private car. The Alliance was launched at the 2007 United Nations Climate Conference in Bali, Indonesia. As founding members of the Alliance, both UNEP and UN-Habitat will promote investment in pedestrian walkways and bicycle lanes in developing country cities as part of a global “10% campaign”. The focus of the initiative is to assist local governments in developing adequate infrastructure for sustainable urban transport, including non-motorized transport, road safety, and alternative energy sources.
