Mr. Jordi Hereu i Boher Mr. Jordi Hereu i Boher has been elected the new Mayor of Barcelona, replacing Mr. Joan Clos, who has been named the new Minister of Industry in the Spanish government.

Born on 14 June 1965, Mr. Jordi Hereu i Boher was appointed on 8 September 2006. Married with two children, he has a first degree and a masters in Company Administration and Management, from the Escola Superior d'Administració d'Empreses (ESADE) and has strong diplomatic skills.

Despite his youth, he has accumulated a lot of experience in the private sector, and, even more, in the public sector where he has held different positions within Barcelona City Council over the last ten years. Before moving to the council, his professional career was linked to different companies in the port of Barcelona.

Mr. Clos, a strong ally of UN-HABITAT, and a fervent campaigner in the cause of sustainable urban development, has also served as Chairman of the United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities - UNACLA and Vice-President of United Cities and Local Governments, the global local authorities forum. In 2004 he formally hosted the Second Session of the World Urban Forum in Barcelona.
