Stockholm is the largest city and capital of Sweden. It is the site of the national Swedish government, the parliament, and the official residence of the Swedish monarch. It is the largest municipality of Sweden, with a population of 788,269 (June 2007). The urban agglomeration of Stockholm has a population of 1, 641,000.
Mitigation and adaptation steps in Stockholm have been taken in different sectors; energy, transportation, water, waste and increasing urban planning. Stockholm’s target of Co2 reduction by 20% by 2006 has already been achieved. Currently the city is on an ambitious aim to have fossil fuel free Stockholm by 2050.
