We, the members of the private sector, meeting at Habitat Business Forum, in New Delhi, from 7 to 9 July 2009, under the theme, “Innovative Cities – Show-Casing and Debating Urban Challenges and Solutions” declare the commitment of the private sector to working with UN-HABITAT towards the accomplishment of its objectives.

Opening Statement by Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UN-HABITAT At the occasion of the opening ceremony of the FIRST HABITAT BUSINESS FORUM - Tuesday 7 July 2009

	New Delhi I wish to thank the Government of India for hosting the First Habitat Business Forum in New Delhi. It is indeed most appropriate to launch the Habitat Business Forum in one of the largest countries and one of the most vibrant economies in the World.

	Nairobi I am delighted to open this First Stakeholders Meeting of the Business Partnership for Sustainable Urbanization. It is also a great pleasure for me to welcome you all. Among your number today in this distinguished audience are top business leaders and decision-makers, representatives of small and medium size enterprises, as well as organizations working with the business community. It is vital that we in the United Nations system work more closely with the business world! So I say a warm word of karibu – welcome to our Nairobi headquarters. And I extend you our hand of friendship and partnership!
