Major Swedish support for UN-Habitat

UN-Habitat and the Government of Sweden signed a new collaboration agreement on Wednesday whereby Stockholm will provide USD 14 million over the next four years to support the agency’s work programme.

The first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, Wangari Maathai of Kenya, died overnight at a Nairobi hospital. Her organization, the Green Belt Movement, said Wangari had been undergoing cancer treatment. She was 71.

The winner of the first prize of a competition organized by UN-HABITAT in collaboration with the Government of Finland was Ms. Maria Klemetz, who will get a one-week trip to Kenya. She was followed closely by Ari Ahoren, Yoshitaka Oshima and Felix Gomez Pousa whose joint entry was second.
