CYPRUSAID, EU step in for UN-HABITAT reconstruction in Lebanon

The Republic of Cyprus through its agency, CYPRUSAID has agreed to provide more than USD600,000 for UN-HABITAT's post conflict reconstruction programme in Lebanon.
Mrs. Tibaijuka meets UN representative in Tanzania

UN-HABITAT Executive Director Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka on Monday paid a courtesy call on the UN Resident Coordinator, in Tanzania, Mr. Oscar Fernandez Taranco. Their talks centred on the Women's Empowerment Programme that helps low income women's groups to build their own houses through women's housing cooperative societies.
Three Egyptian City Profiles published: Tanta, Rosetta and Menouf

For the first time, city profiles that include the new Rapid Urban Sector Profiling for Sustainability (RUSPS) themes: Basic Urban Services and Local Economic Development were published. Additionally, one of the profiles contains a seventh theme, Cultural Heritage, because of its high relevance for Rosetta.

At the end of a two-day visit to the Iranian capital, Mr. Daniel Biau, Director of UN-HABITAT’s Technical Co-operation Division, announced that a Disaster Mitigation Office of UN-HABITAT will start its activities in Tehran at the beginning of 2008.
World Water Week: Water for Thirsty Cities

World Water Week opened in the Swedish capital this week with impassioned warnings by the Prime Minister, Mr. Frederik Reinfeldt, and UN-HABITAT’s Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, that the world was not doing enough to achieve the Millennium Development Goal of halving the number of people without safe access to water and basic sanitation by 2015.
UN-HABITAT receives Swedish grant to help clean up lakeside city

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) last week availed a US$ 900,000 grant to UN-HABITAT towards waste management in the western Kenyan town of Kisumu on the shores of Lake Victoria.
