UN-HABITAT and ACP Group sign cooperation agreement

UN-HABITAT and the Brussels-based African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group) have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at promoting sustainable urbanization and the eradication of poverty in ACP countries.
UN-HABITAT's global campaigns launched in Burkina Faso

Several thousand residents of an informal community on the outskirts of Ouagadougou on 12 October gathered to witness the signature of a plan of action to launch UN-HABITAT’s global campaigns on urban governance and secure tenure in Burkina Faso. The plan provides for spending amounting to US$600 million over the next seven years.
Norwegian premier visits UN-HABITAT, signs landmark agreement

A high-powered Norwegian delegation led by Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik visited UN-HABITAT headquarters on Tuesday and signed a Framework Agreement with the Executive Director Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka aimed at improving the lives of slum dwellers and urban poor.

UN-HABITAT Executive Director Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka on Monday hailed Professor Wangari Maathai on winning the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize saying that her award showed recognition of the courage and endeavours of African women.

UN-HABITAT and ESRI provide two Kenyan cities software on Geographical Information Systems

On World Habitat Day 2004, the Kenya municipalities of Nakuru and Naivasha received free Geographical Information System (GIS) software worth over US$15,000 under a joint grant programme from UN-HABITAT and the software producer, ESRI.

UN-HABITAT’s Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, will meet in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Thursday for two days of talks with members of the new Commission for Africa that is preparing a report for next year’s meeting of the Group of Eight leading industrialized nations.
City Council and UN-HABITAT launch new safety convention for Nairobi

UN-HABITAT Executive Director Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka on Wednesday launched the Residents Convention for a Safer Nairobi for All and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Local Government to make the capital safer and replicate the project in other Kenyan urban centres.
