Tibaijuka appointed Minister of Housing, Tanzania

Former executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Mrs Anna Tibaijuka, has been appointed the Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements for the Republic of Tanzania.

Mrs Tibaijuka retired from the UN in August this year after heading up the Human Settlements Programme, and previously the Commission for Human Settlements, for ten years.

In October, she was elected unopposed to parliament in her home country of Tanzania

In her last official mission to South Africa as UN-HABITAT's Executive Director, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka had a meeting with a constituency close to her heart- the young people. The historic visit also saw Mrs. Tibaijuka meet the former South Africa's President Nelson Mandela at his home.

Mrs. Tibaijuka gave the assurance today while receiving the credentials of the country’s new Permanent Representative to UN-HABITAT, Mr. Mohamed Ali Nur.
