Connecting people with local governments

With the inauguration of a sub-project by the community and local government, people can start to benefit from the improved neighborhood. In addition, a new phase of ‘Operation and Maintenance’ begins whilst also looking for opportunities for additional projects based on the lessons learned and the strengthened cohesion and trust between community members. The relationship between organized communities and governments is essential to make sure that the community projects are part of the operational plan (e.g. providing teachers for a school built by the community) and the maintenance plan (e.g. road repair, operation of wells and cleaning of drainage). This consists of:

  • Monitoring
  • Impact analysis
  • Lessons learned
  • Expanding community-led upgrading to other settlements
  • Up-scaling, establishing additional councils and creating clusters of councils
  • Connecting community projects with government projects
Inauguration of a project by municipal and community leaders
Wells require proper operation and maintenance
