Community Contracts and project proposals

The next step is turning plans into reality. The Community members can implement (part of) the sub-project themselves, sub-contract part of the work or can contribute in kind or cash. Community projects approved by the local government can importantly increase tenure security in informal settlement s and stimulate community development. Community contracting therefore entails:

  • Developing and approving detailed technical sub-project proposals by communities, the municipal engineer and the local authority
  • Identifying the Community Contribution
  • Signing a Community Implementation Agreement between donor(s), facilitating partner(s) and the community council
  • Implementation and payments of community grants in installments based on approved progress
Registration of properties and issuing occupancy documents in informal areas can increase tenure security and support community projects
