General Information:

The Fifth session of the World Urban Forum is being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 22-26 March 2010. The forum is an event in the international calendar which brings together the public and private sector, Civil society and Non–Governmental Organisations, National and Local Governments, Professionals and Academics from around the world to discuss Key urban challenges facing the world today.

The discussions during the World Urban Forum in Brazil will focus on the main theme:
The Right to the City: Bridging the Urban Divide.


Venue of WUF5:

The forum will be held at the Warehouses of Rio de Janeiro Harbour, a waterfront area under renovation. The address for the WUF5 venue area is: Avenida Rodrigues Alves – Armazem 5, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For more information see Venue


Registration:

We encourage online registration, as it will make it faster to provide you with the WUF5 badge, which you will need to attend the forum. If you have successfully registered through the website, you will receive an auto reply confirming your registration and begin to receive newsletters

  • When will the on-line registration close?

    The ongoing on-line registration will close on 14 March 2010

  • How do I register?

    A registration form is available on the WUF5 website at :http://www.unhabitat.org/wuf

  • Is there a registration fee?

    No, It is a free online process found on our web.

  • In which language is the registration form?

    You will find the form in English and in Portuguese.

  • When will on-site accreditation start?

    On-site accreditation will commence on 15 March 2010

  • What can I do if I have not managed to register online before closure on 14 March 2010, but I want to attend WUF5?

    If you have not registered before the deadline, you will only be able to access the Exhibition area from a separate entrance, but not allowed to attend WUF5 as a participant.


  • Visa and Invitation Letter:

  • Do I need an invitation letter from UN-Habitat for visa processing?

    No. An invitation letter from UN-HABITAT is not a requirement.You need to contact the nearest Brazil embassy /Consulate in your country and take the letter of Acknowledgement you received upon registration.

  • How do I apply for a visa?

    Contact the nearest Brazilian Embassy or Consulate for information on how to obtain a visa. Please visit the website link provided for contact details of the Brazilian Embassy/Consulate in your Country.

  • Do I need an invitation letter from UN-Habitat for visa processing?

    No. An invitation letter from UN-HABITAT is not a requirement.


  • Programme on Events:

  • How can I know at what time an event will take place at WUF5?

    Once the outline of the WUF5 Programme is available, all events taking place will be announced and the venue and time will be indicated on our website at: http://www.unhabitat.org/wuf
    We advise a regular visit to our web site for updates on information.
    Upon arrival, You will receive a delegates bag with a provision of the programme, and other WUF5 documents.


  • Financing / Sponsorship:

  • Can I get sponsorship to participate in the Forum?

    No. All participants are expected to pay for their own travel and accommodation.


  • Hotel:

  • How do I book my hotel/accommodation?

    You can make a direct booking to the designated WUF5 hotel of your choice, by following the instructions found on this Website www.tamoyo.com


  • Transport:

  • What means of transport is available for me to use around the city?

    You can travel by Taxi, Metro, Bus, or by Train. There will be transportation available at cost from the designated WUF5 hotels (see section on hotels), to the Forum venue. Special identified taxis will also be available to facilitate transportation at WUF5.


  • Eligibility to Participate in the Events:

  • Which kind of events will take place at WUF5?

    The events include Dialogues, Networking events, Training events, Special session and Side events, in addition to exhibitions by cities, organisations, national and international institutions among others. A comprehensive programme will be posted on the UN-HABITAT website and the official WUF website in due course.

  • Who will be involved in these events? Or Who should attend WUF5?

    The WUF is attended by Habitat Agenda partners worldwide comprising: non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, professional associations, academics, leaders from all levels of government, mayors, diplomats, members of diverse national regional and international associations of local governments, multilateral finance institutions, and UN agencies.

  • Do I need an invitation letter from UN-Habitat to participate in any event of WUF5?

    No invitation is required to participate in the dialogues or networking events.

  • Are there restrictions in attending any event during WUF 5?

    Generally, all events are open, but it will be reflected in the programme if an event is closed. The only restriction applies to some high level round tables involving peers alone. These are not open to the general public.

  • Who can participate?

    The Forum is an open meeting and everyone can attend in whatever capacity they have registered in. All are invited to participate in the World Urban Forum and actively exchange ideas or learn best practises from others. Naturally, the main theme will guide the discussion in all events.


  • Language(s) used at the WUF5:

  • What language will be used at the WUF5 events?

    The Forum’s working language will be English, Translations will however be made for major events in four languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish and French.


  • Exhibitions:

  • How can I apply for exhibition space?

    Please register for the Forum at www.unhabitat.org/wuf and then select Primary Role at the Forum as Exhibitor. You will then be able to select from a range of exhibition booths. For specific queries, please contact wufexhibition@unhabitat.org


  • Accreditation:

    From 15 March 2010 onwards, you will be able to obtain your WUF5 badge at the venue and from 17 March 2010 at the international airport in Rio de Janeiro. All arriving participants are urged to make use of this provision for early accreditation in order to avoid long queues on Monday, 22 March 2010, which could result in participants missing the WUF5 opening ceremony.

    There are no calls for presentation of papers at the World Urban Forum.

    Can I sell my book or a product at WUF?

    No, World Urban Forum does not facilitate the sale of private products, publications, e.t.c.

    How can I volunteer at WUF5?

    Usually the host would need to be approached directly. More information on this will be available shortly.
