Conference Room 8 | Local Economic Development Caucus: Banana Juice Pilot Project Consultation UN-HABITAT is spearheading the Lake Victoria Region Local Economic Development Initiative involving several other UN agencies, donors and the governments in the region. One of the projects under this Initiative is the pilot project on Increased Farm Incomes from the Banana-based Beverages in the Lake Victoria Region. The purpose of this consultative meeting is to review the progress of the project and to strategize the future course of action. |

It will also feature presentations on the guide for local governments in Latin America: “Local Prevention Guide Towards Social Cohesion and Citizen Security Policies” (Alberto Hurtado University, Santiago, Chile, and UN-Habitat Safer Cities Programme). |

Mohamed Atani the OARE Technical Officer will give a presentation to relevant ministers or their representatives on the OARE Database. |
1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Conference Room 10 | GLTN Partnership in Developing and Testing Gender Criteria in Large Scale Tool Assessment The event will present the recently completed GLTN gender evaluation criteria framework, including the launch of a new brochure with the instrument (evaluation questions, indicators and possible sources of information). It will share the next planned steps of piloting the criteria in Nepal (as part of land reform) and Brazil (in the application of urban policy statute of the city) to rural areas. Presentations to be made by LUMANTI and Espacio Feminista amongst others. |

6:15 – 8:30 p.m. UN Recreation Centre | Government of Indonesia Evening Reception for Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (APMCHUD) The reception is intended to introduce the city of Solo, located in central Java province, Indonesia as the next host of the Third Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and urban development (APMCHUD) scheduled in May 2010. The minster of State for Public Housing of Indonesia invites ministers, and their delegations from the Asia-Pacific countries, UN-HABITAT secretariat, UNEP, international organisations and other respected invitees to attend the evening reception. Guests will have the opportunity to be entertained by a cultural performance from Solo, and to taste some of the Indonesian cuisine. |
6:15 – 7:15 p.m. Conference Room 7 | Progress Report: Implementation of the "Policy Human Settlements in Crisis" Further to Article 3.4.i) of the UN-HABITAT Strategic Policy on Human Settlements and Crisis, the Disaster Post-Conflict and Safety Section will provide a briefing to CPR members and GC delegates on information derived from monitoring the work of the agency in implementation of the policy. The briefing will be informal and consist of a short presentation of achievements and challenges, and allow for a 30 minute question and answer session. |

1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Conference Room 1 | Implementing UN-Habitat Country Programmes. During 2008, UN-Habitat has prepared 25 country programmes, in close cooperation with national governments and UN country teams, under the MTSIP umbrella. The event will present the methodology and content of these country programmes and discuss their implementation. Chaired by Daniel Biau, Director, RTCD, the event will involve UN-Habitat Regional Directors and high-level representatives of countries in which these new programming activities are taking place. |
Conference Room 3 | Microfinance for Water and Sanitation - A New Approach Roundtable discussion on Microfinance for water and sanitation - A new approach and will involve presentations by invited experts including those from National Housing Bank, India and UNHABITAT. Focus of discussion will be both on India as well as other Asian Experiences. |
Conference Room 13 | Shack Dwellers International Shack Dwellers International will have a discussion with Southern African Development Community (SADC) Ministers of Housing (Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa). The meeting will focus on the launch of the International Urban Poor Fund as well as on specific country programmes. |
Conference Room 12 | The Right-based Approach to Housing and its Implication to UN-HABITAT Organized within the framework of the UN Housing Rights Programme-UNHRP and Advisory Group on Forced Evictions (AGFE), with the idea of presenting the status and progress of these two inter-linked activities of UN-HABITAT and launch a broad discussion with partners and GC participants about the future of UNHRP and AGFE, both internally and externally. A keynote presentation of an AGFE member who has been working with several UN agencies on the right-based approach to development, Urban Jonsson, will illustrate the implications of this fundamental approach for UNHRP and AGFE to the programmes of UN-HABITAT under the MTSIP era. |

6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Conference Room 7 | Shelter Profiles and the Provision of Affordable Housing A follow-up of the network event organized during WUF IV focused on the provision of affordable housing, organized by the Ministry of Cities in cooperation with the HPS/UN-HABITAT, MINURVI, and Ministry of Housing of South Africa, CONVAVI-Mexico and Ministry of Housing of the Netherlands. The goal is make a further step into the discussion and establish a link with one of the FA3-MTSIP programmes focusing on shelter profiles and assessment of housing sector performance in different countries with the aim of producing a global housing agenda document. |
