For project implementation, specific activities are assigned to partners based on cooperation agreements. These protocols define the framework for transparent collaboration for concrete outputs and to facilitate reaching out to the main beneficiaries, the poor.
CREPA Headquarters - Ouagadougou
This agency will ensure the following activities: - Identify, compile, organise and train small scale private water vendors to better discharge their roles in the marketing of safe water supplies;
- promote access of the poor to potable water and sanitation in urban areas: definition of alternative access to water delivery services through the National Office for Water and Sanitation (ONEA); review of the cost of connections and tariffs in disadvantaged areas; subsidy on connections prices in the form of micro-credit. Ongoing experience in the city of Bobo Dioulasso to facilitate access of poor populations to water and sanitation services through the grant of micro credit and the implementation of short diameter drainage networks will be strengthened and the results scaled up. Bénégo and Somgandé areas where UN-HABITAT studies are ongoing are to serve as pilot sites for this process.
- Exchange information and develop partnerships and capitalise experiences at the regional level: publication of strategic papers and existing regulations on water and sanitation; publication of a quarterly journal for the promotion of exchange in experience and information on activities on the programme; updating and disseminating of indicators on water and sanitation in Burkina Faso especially for the city of Ouagadougou; networking with local training and resource centres; interaction with other regional and international centres; organisation of training and capacity building sessions for managers of water and sanitation sectors;
- Equip in strategic implementation and monitoring tools of water and sanitation under the Millennium Development Goals in Ouagadougou;
- Value based water, sanitation and hygiene education (VBWSHE): (a) contribution to the elaboration of training support; (b) construction and availability of water and sanitation facilities in targeted schools;
- Monitor and inform regularly all actors involved in the project progress and evaluation in Burkina Faso and in all cities where CREPA is partner (Bamako and Dakar).
WaterAid Burkina
Support will be carried out under the following activities: - identify the problem of access to sanitation in vulnerable areas and places of high public concentration;
- definition of innovative technological alternatives for sanitation (e.g. cesspits, cesspools, VIP, etc), and evaluation of the socio economic impacts of proposed solutions;
- adoption of an adapted technological alternative based on the previous activity;
- construction of community managed public places of convenience based on the adopted technology
- Documentation and dissemination of a guidelines for stakeholders in the WATSAN sector based on lessons learnt and experiences gained ;
- production of articles for specialised newsletters and journals of WaterAid Burkina, West African Water Partnership, Infos CREPA as well as private and public newspapers in Burkina Faso;
- updating and disseminating indicators on water and sanitation in Burkina Faso, especially in the Ouagadougou city;
- involvement of the association of all stakeholders, including traditional leaders, in awareness campaigns on environmental sanitation and protection of dams from pollution;
- construction and availability of water and sanitation facilities in target schools;
- promotion of centres of excellence and resources centres in target communities.
