A rapid diagnostic study of the water sector activities in Nanjing Municipality was undertaken by UN-HABITAT to identify major sector constraints impeding provision of water supply and sanitation services, recommend policies that address these constraints, and identify areas of technical assistance and follow-up investment. The draft report of the diagnostic study provided a basis for the reformulation of the proposal by the city of Nanjing which has now been included in the ADB country strategy programme. Under the Project Planning Technical Assistance Programme, the AsDB has committed US$ 100 million in investments to improve water and sanitation services in Nanjing City in 2006/2007.
