Environmental Consultant
Herbert Girardet is an environmental consultant, writer and filmmaker. A recipient of a UN 'Global 500 Award for Outstanding Environmental Achievements', the main focus of his work is the urgent need to create a sustainable the relationship between People and Planet. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, London. Since 2005, he has been the Senior Adviser to Eco-City Dongtan, Chongming Island, Shanghai. Between 2000 and 2003 he was a consultant to the Greater London Authority on its Environmental Strategies, and since 2003 he has been ‘Thinker in Residence’ in Adelaide, South Australia.
Mr. Girardet has written and co-authored 10 books & reports on major environmental themes. His latest publication was “Cities, People, Planet – Liveable Cities for a Sustainable Planet” which was published byJohn Wiley, London, New York & Singapore in 2004. Since the 1980s he has written extensively in the national and international press. He frequently lectures to diverse audiences in the UK and at conferences in many countries. Herbert has written and produced many documentaries on environmental themes for the BBC, Channel 4 (C4) and international co-producers.
