The Executive Director, Dr. Joan Clos, has called for greater cooperation between UN-HABITAT and the State of Kuwait. The Executive Director made the call today while receiving the credentials from the new Permanent Representative of the State Kuwait to UN-Habitat, H.E. Mr. Yakuob Y. Alsanad.
Dr. Clos informed the Kuwaiti envoy that UN-HABITAT was still working in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan and other countries experiencing civil strife and called on Kuwait to support the organization’s efforts to help rebuild these countries. He also informed the envoy that UN-HABITAT also undertakes consulting for Governments and the reconstruction of human settlements.
Mr. Alsanad informed the Executive Director of Kuwait’s willingness to work with UN-HABITAT in any area of mutual interest. He informed Dr. Clos that a donors conference for the reconstruction of East Sudan will soon be held in Kuwait.
It would be recalled that earlier this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait agreed to provide additional contribution to Kuwait Office for Arab States, from where UN-HABITAT coordinates some of its activities in the region.
