Delegates at the Pacific Water and Wastes Conference in Papua New Guinea.
UN-HABITAT’s Global Water Operators Partnership Alliance has set the wheels in motion for cooperation in the Pacific region.
Representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Pacific Water and Wastes Association (PWWA) held discussions with the Global Water Operators Partnership Alliance (GWOPA), lead by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, to outline the partnership.
The discussions took place at the third session of the Pacific Water Conference & EXPO earlier this month in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
It was agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding would be drafted outlining the way forward for Water Operator Partnerships – known as WOPs – in the region. The document is expected to be signed later this year.
At the same time, the Global Water Operators Partnership Alliance agreed to support activities in the region through the funding of a Pacific Region Programme Coordinator to get the cooperation underway.
