Start Date : 12 Oct 10
End Date : 14 Oct 10
Location: Geneva, Switzerland
The Council of Global Unions is organizing the landmark conference "A Global Agenda for Quality Public Services" from 12-14 October 2010, in Geneva, Switzerland. Our organisations share the belief that quality public services provide the essential foundation for decent work, democracy, equity, and quality of life for all citizens.

Whether we work in the private or public sectors, quality public services benefit us as individuals, and our families and communities. Quality public services provide the social supports and stable jobs that build sustainable economies and societies. Investment in quality public services is a key solution to the current economic crisis.

Through forum and workshop presentations and discussions led by diverse international speakers, this conference will chart innovative strategies to improve and expand quality public services around the world. A Global Charter for quality public services and an Action Plan will be proposed for adoption.

The conference will be the beginning of a joint campaign to reassert the need for Quality Public Services in all countries. We consider this campaign to be of critical importance as the global economy emerges with difficulty from the most severe financial and economic crisis in 80 years, and public service funding has become a target for powerful interests which advocate "exit strategies" to cut public deficits, without resolving the fundamental issues of deregulation and speculation which caused the crisis in the first place.

The 400+ conference participants will include trade union, civil society and government representatives from across the globe. This offers a dynamic opportunity to strengthen our alliances around public service issues.

There is no registration fee. However, participants will need to make their own travel and hotel arrangements (recommended conference hotels offering discounts will be detailed in June). Please register by emailing your name, organisation and contact info to: Pauline.Chase@world-psi.org, by the early registration deadline of 21 June 2010. For updates, please see the conference website at www.QPSconference.org.

On behalf of the conference organizing committee, we look forward to your positive response to this invitation.
