Vice-Chairman Riyad High Commission, Excellency Mr Ibrahim Bin Mohammed Al-Romaih
UN-HABITAT's Executive Director, visited Saudi Arabia at the weekend for talks with high-level officials at the start of a tour of Gulf countries.
She was received in audience by the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, HRH Prince Dr. Mansour bin Meteb bin Abdul Aziz. They discussed the challenges Saudi municipalities face in raising their own resources to meet the demands of local service delivery and overall efficiency of local entities.
She also paid a courtesy call to the High Commission for the Development of Riyadh. The Vice-Chairman of the High Commission, His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim Bin Mohammed Al-Romaih, hosted the UN-HABITAT delegation. The delegation was impressed by the soundness and readiness of the planning system set up in the Kingdom's capital. A comprehensive database was been established coupled with a Geographical Information System to assist local authorities and the private sector with service delivery and local investment needs.
After Riyadh, Mrs. Tibaijuka is scheduled to visit other Saudi cities, before contuing to Kuwait and Bahrain.
