Shanghai, 19 May 10

The first Chinese Goodwill Ambassador Against Hunger, Li Ning, visited the United Nations Pavilion last week to support the World Food Programmes’s (WFP) event “Pool our strength and fight hunger worldwide”.

From May 18 -22, a traumatic photo exhibition at the United Nations Pavilion featured pictures recording the life of people suffering all over the world as well as the assistance of caring people from all nations through the World Food Programme’s work.

Speaking at the pavilion, Li Ning talked about his own story and of the plight of people who go hungry every day around the world.  He spoke about the “triple meaning of health; a healthy body, a healthy mind and a healthy lifestyle” that applies to all.

Li Ning also promoted the Free Rice game designed by the students from Beijing University and Fudan University, which in which a food map displays

Li Ning said: “The elimination of hunger and building a healthy and harmonious world is the common dream of mankind. However, there are still 10 million people living in hunger in the world today. We hope more people can take concern of this problem. As long as we work together and fight hunger, the problem will eventually be overcome.”

Since 2005, China has gradually increased donations to WFP. China has now totally donated 40.55 million U.S. dollars to WFP. The bilateral cooperation has produced significant and meaningful achievement in the fight against hunger.
