Awni Behnam, UN Expo Commissioner General and Cheng Yu-Shan, CEO of Qingdao Hinon Ocean Bi-tech Co. Ltd.
The UN today signed a partnership agreement with Qingdao Hinon Bi-Tech Company Ltd for support of its Shanghai World Expo Pavilion.
In a signing ceremony only a few days before the opening of the Expo, UN Expo Commissioner General Awni Behnam welcomed guests to the recently completed UN Pavilion.
Cheng Yu-Shan, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Qingdao, Li Hua-Jun, Vice President of China Ocean University and Wang Lu-Ming, Secretary General of Qingdao Municipal Committee, among others were all present to sign the agreement.
In his address, Dr Behnam said that the UN Secretary General had highlighted food security as one of the biggest future challenges facing the world and said that companies like Qingdao Hinon Bi-Tech were already working to address this challenge.
“We congratulate you because we recognise the efforts you are already making in researching the technology needed to increase sustainable production of food supply from the ocean,” he said, “and we welcome your contribution to the UN Pavilion”.
