The goal of this project is to make the Land Commission operational and known to the public as a peace building instrument of trust, competence and integrity, within a broader institutional framework for improved land governance.  The project will support the establishment of a functional Land Commission that will work with key partners to realize the following outputs:

  1. Institution-building activities that strengthen the capacity of the Land Commission, including its Technical Secretariat,
  2. Public awareness/educational activities aimed at improving the understanding of the Land Commission and land issues in Liberia,
  3. Activities that enhance the Land Commission’s capacity for analyzing,  monitoring, and evaluating  land-related activities and land sector coordination between relevant ministries, agencies and other stakeholders, and
  4. Initial studies and development of interim procedures for addressing immediate and pressing land administration issues that will assist the Land Commission in developing and recommending national land policies, programs and land laws. This will be part of a long term land reform program that will promote better land governance and contribute directly to peace building, stability, equitable growth, and natural resource management for the benefit of all Liberians.

The project was initiated on February 2009 and is expected to be complete by August 2010.
