Background The Global Research Network on Human Settlements (HS-Net) is a network of individuals engaged in human settlements research. The objective of HS-Net is to promote global sharing of information on urban conditions and trends, principally through the Global Report on Human Settlements. Prepared by UN-HABITAT under a mandate from the United Nations General Assembly, the Global Report on Human Settlements is the most authoritative and up-to-date assessment of conditions and trends in the world’s cities and other human settlements. Written in clear non-technical language and supported by informative graphics, case studies and extensive statistical data, these reports are essential tools and references for researchers, academics, planners, public authorities and civil society organizations around the world. One of the key functional organs of HS-Net is its Advisory Board which consists of multidisciplinary human settlements experts representing the various geographical regions of the world. The primary role of the Advisory Board is to advise UN-HABITAT on the substantive content and organisation of the Global Report on Human Settlements and various other activities of HS-Net. The Board had its inaugural meeting in November 2004 followed by subsequent meetings annually. The sixth meeting will be held from 19 to 21 October in Mombasa, Kenya. Objectives The sixth Advisory Board Meeting has the following key objectives: - Review the first draft chapters of the 2011 Global Report on Human Settlements on 'Cities and Climate Change';
- Review the draft outline of the 2013 Global Report on Human Settlements on 'Sustainable Urban Transport'; and
- Review overall HS-Net activities.
