 UN-HABITAT received many pledges from United Nations staff, organizations and Governing Council delegates to give books and audio visual material for communities in slums in response the agency’s Book into the future appeal.
The agency launched the appeal at its 22nd Governing Council. Donations will be given initially to Kibera, the largest slum in Kenya where a library is being established by the Kenya National Library Service. The Service establishes libraries in remote areas and poor urban neighbourhoods to bring much needed recreational and educational materials to communities.
