The International Conference on Cities and Climate Change will bring together about 100 international and Norwegian participants from public, private and civil society from Norway, Ecuador, Mozambique, Uganda and Philippines, the Cities and Climate Change Initiative (CCCI) partner countries; UNHABITAT staff; and resource persons drawn from other UN partner institutions and Academia.
The objective of the Conference will be to develop a common understanding on issues and challenges on Cities and Climate Change and identify opportunities for forging effective northsouth partnerships and networks for technology, finance and knowledge transfer, with specific focus on the building, transport and waste management sectors. This activity is part of the Cities and Climate Change Initiative (CCCI), a component of the Sustainable Urban Development Network (SUD-Net). The CCCI partner cities, Sorsogon, Kampala, Esmeraldas and Maputo, will share their insights and issues on how to adapt to climate change.
The Conference also aims to promote the role of cities in developing and implementing climate change policies and strategies, which will feature prominently at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP15 in Copenhagen in December 2009.
This Conference is organized jointly by UN-HABITAT and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Norway, as technical focal point.
