The International Urban Training Centre, in collaboration with UN-HABITAT and the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, IHS, is hosting an international training course on 'Sustainable Urban Energy’, from 24-28 November 2008 in Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province, Korea.

The global concerns over the high costs of energy as well as the local and global environmental impacts associated with fossil fuel consumption have not left local governments untouched. This course addresses leaders of towns and cities in Asia who strive to make their municipalities’ energy consumption and supply more sustainable.

The course provides an introduction to sustainable urban energy, assessing the options for demand reduction, technologies for alternative energy provision as well as planning and regulatory options for local governments.

The IUTC adheres to equal opportunity principles and the application of women is strongly encouraged. The IUTC offers a number of full and partial scholarships for this course. Application deadline is 15 October 2008. Visit the IUTC website at http://www.iutc.org/ and check more details at “Resources.”

The International Urban Training Center (IUTC), was established in Gangwon Province, Korea to build the capacity of cities and towns nationally and in the Asian and Pacific region in support of the goal of sustainable urbanization.
