Nairobi, 24 Sept 07

As preparations for the fourth Web for Development gear up, numerours proposals to organize best practice sessions, training courses, and exhibitions have been received. These cover a wide range of issues from Internet solutions for the disabled in Sudan, e-learning for developing countries and using the Internet to help earthquake victims in Pakistan. The conference promises to be a stimulating and varied one that should inspire participants to come up with innovative solutions to the pressing issues facing developing countries.

Hundreds of participants have already registered for the conference, due to take place 28-30 November in the Nairobi capital of Kenya. The conference expects to bring over 500 participants from the public and private sectors to discuss how the Internet can help accelerate achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Already, registered participants cover some 30 countries representing United Nations agencies, governments, civil society partners and the private sector. This wide representation sets the basis for establishing partnerships to maximise the impact of the Internet for development.

The conference expects greater participation from the corporate sector than previous sessions.   Businesses will have a unique opportunity to network, establish new partnerships and show how they can contribute to using the Internet to accelerate achievement of the MDGs through innovative solutions targeted at developing countries.  The conference has developed a special Corporate Package to allow businesses to profile their products and services.
