Ahmedabad, India, 14 Apr 06
A two-day roundtable meeting between UN-HABITAT and the Centre for Environment Education in India concluded in Ahmedabad last week with calls for greater cooperation between the two institutions in the area of sanitation.

The meeting organized by UN-HABITAT reviewed the Human Values-based Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Education Programme in Madhya Pradesh State. Since 2000, UN-HABITAT has been implementing innovative water programmes in Africa and Asia. The programmes focus on imparting knowledge on water and sanitation, as well skills development aimed at fostering better water conservation ethics.

The meeting also reviewed strengthening cooperation in Madhya Pradesh, new initiatives in Nepal, and Southeast Asia, as well as further collaboration in Africa. Both programmes in Asia and Africa are funded in part by the Asian Development Bank and the African Development Bank.
