Mrs. Tibaijuka with Mr. Egoshkin
The Permanent Representatives of the Russian Federation and the Slovak Republic to UN-HABITAT have pledged more support for the agency in meetings at which they presented their credentials to the Executive Director Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka.

She told Mr. Valeriy Egoshkin of Russia, that Russia was a great supporter of the organization. She said UN-HABITAT was trying to establish a rapid post-conflict and post-disaster response capability and called for more support in the assessed voluntary contributions, and for equal treatment of agencies in the disbursement of funds.

Mrs. Tibajuka also called on the Russian Federation to provide Junior Professional Officers (JPOs) in engineering, architecture, and town planning to UN-HABITAT, as many other countries already do. She also raised the issue of Habitat Programme Managers, whom, she said, act as a link between UN-HABITAT and their countries.

Mrs. Tibaijuka with Mr. Liska
Earlier, she congratulated Mr. Igor Liska of Slovakia, on his country’s accession to the United Nations Security Council starting 1 January 2006. She recalled with pleasure that the former Slovak president Rudolf Schuster had won the Habitat Scroll of Honour Award in 1999.

They formally presented their credentials to Mrs. Tibaijuka on 29 November.
