International Conference on Sustainable Urban Energy: CALL FOR PAPERS

The UN-Habitat and the Municipality of Tehran in collaboration with the International Arts and Architecture Research Association are holding an international conference on Sustainable Urban Energy in Tehran on the 12th and 13th of December 2012.  The conference is intended to provide a platform to discuss innovations in waste to energy with the objective of recovering energy from the tens of thousands of municipal waste generated daily in the metropolis of Tehran.  The event will also present an opportunity to promote the sharing of best practices and lessons learned in the wider field of sustainable urban energy.

The main theme of the conference is Transforming Municipal Solid Waste into Energy with particular focus on biogas systems. Local authorities and municipal waste experts from the region are invited to learn about the latest research, innovation and trends in the use of municipal solid waste to produce energy and address environmental and climate change concerns.   In addition to the main theme, the conference will also focus on sub-themes including energy efficiency in the built environment, renewable energy in urban areas and sustainable urban energy planning.  The first day of the conference will be dedicated to the main theme with the second day dedicated to sessions focusing on the three sub-themes. 

We would like to invite interested experts, practitioners and decision-makers to submit abstracts focusing on the main theme of the conference; Transforming Municipal Solid Waste into Energy.
The abstracts should focus on one of the following;

Municipal solid waste conversion
Municipal sewage/wastewater to biogas
Landfill gas technology
Sustainable municipal waste management
Biogas projects addressing sanitation and energy access in urban areas

Abstracts on the conference sub-themes are also welcome and should focus on;

Green buildings and sustainable housing
Energy efficient street lighting
Renewable energy technologies in urban settings
Feed-in tariffs
Neighborhood smart grids
Low carbon city strategies
Integration of climate change mitigation and adaptation into urban planning

The abstracts, preferably in English should cover best practices/successful experiences and lessons learned in the selected topic.

Call for Papers Timeline
Experts receiving this call for papers should take note of the following dates;

Monday 27 August 2012:  Deadline for the submission of abstracts (maximum length of 350 words) containing: purpose, design/methodology/approach, findings, originality/value, key words, paper type. Paper title with 125 characters maximum length. All abstracts should be sent to president@iaara.org.ir, urban-energy@unhabitat.org and Fredrick.Ochieng@unhabitat.org.

Friday 14 September 2012: Notification and publication of abstract selection results.

Thursday 25 October 2012:  Deadline for submission of conference papers of a maximum 20 pages length. Paper format: A4, Microsoft Word, font Times New Roman 12, space 1.5, margins 2.5 cm on all sides. The text should contain: Number and title of the Discussion Topic; Title; Author(s) name (s), institution, address, email; Abstract of 10 lines; Key words; Introduction; Methodology; Discussion; Results; Conclusions and References.

Important: If receipt of your submitted paper is not confirmed to you within one week after you submitted it, please contact the conference organizers on the emails urban-energy@unhabitat.org  and Fredrick.Ochieng@unhabitat.org.  Selected papers will be invited to attend the conference. 

Accommodation
Accommodation will be arranged if required for delegates/participants near the conference venue.
