The NGO Centre for Community Organisation and Development (CCODE) which is an affiliate of the Shack Dwellers International (SDI) have organized a Malawi Cities Forum on Citywide Slum Upgrading which is being held from 23 January to 25 January in Lilongwe. This conference is the first on its kind in Malawi to focus on slum upgrading and will be aimed at drawing lessons learnt from a number of Malawi cities and other Southern African cities (South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe) on settlement upgrading. The forum will draw out best practices. The forum is thus expected to set out distinct ways through which upgrading projects can be implemented. The conference will help Malawi  spell out a critical path for community led slum upgrading initiatives some of which have already taken off the ground. During the conference, the Participatory Slum Upgrading Progamme will launch urban sector profiles of Blantyre, Lilongwe, Zomba and Mzuzu. PSUP applies urban sector profiling to support cities identify challenges as well as response initiatives.
