Location: Nairobi, Kenya
The fourth Session of African Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (AMCHUD4) is scheduled in Nairobi, Kenya, 20-23 March 2012 to discuss ways how urban development can create opportunities and employment, attracting investors, and help cities serve as the powerhouses of their countries.

Here Ministers will be able to exchange ideas, adopt common positions and come of with new ways of improving cooperation in galvanizing the role of African towns and cities in national development.

The theme of the fourth session was agreed by the AMCHUD Bureau in Rabat, Morocco in September 2011: Territorial planning and access to basic services for all. A special emphasis will be given to climate change through the agreed sub-theme, implications of climate change for territorial planning and access to basic services. The theme underscores the central roles of urban planning and access to basic services, while taking on the growing implications of climate change.

The conference will start of with an Experts Group Meeting 20-22 March to prepare recommendations for the high-level segment 22-23 March at which the Ministers will deliberate.

A highlight of the meeting will be too see how AMCHUD can be strengthened as a Regional Ministerial conference. With this in mind, it is expected to adopt a Constitution and Rules of Procedure.
