The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and UN-HABITAT have joined hands to help improve urban mobility in cities around the world many of which are growing increasingly polluted by vehicle exchaust often because of poor public transport.
At a meeting hosted by UITP 21-22 November, experts sought to provide guidance to UN-HABITAT on the agency's urban mobility policy, and also provide insights for the UN-HABITAT's 2013 Global Report on Human Settlements which will focus on urban mobility.
The report is a flagship output of the agency published every two years to help governments, municipalities and urban planners in their decision making. The report is widely recognized and is translated into 6 languages. Sections of the report were reviewed by experts at the Brussels meeting.
