The Global Land Tool Networks 4th Partners Meeting - “Strengthening Global Partnerships”

Location: Nairobi, Kenya
With the tentative theme of ‘Strengthening Global Partnerships”the meeting aims at further strengthening the global partnership towards sustaining the paradigm shift in the development and implementation of pro-poor land tools and approaches and in the promotion of alternative land tenure and land management systems to improve tenure security within the land governance framework.
Specifically, the meeting intends to achieve the following:

  • To share GLTN’s achievements, challenges and lessons learnt for the last four years and to contribute to its future direction;
  • To share and identify partners’ key priorities and programmes related to the achievement of the GLTN agenda to improve synergies and interactions;
  • To strengthen working relationships and collaboration between and among partners within their own sectors/clusters and across other sectors/clusters towards addressing emerging global challenges in the land sector;
  • To decide on representations to the International Advisory Board (IAB) and to agree on further improving the current arrangements and feedback mechanisms;
  • To review GLTN’s experience on partnership and networking and provide strategic recommendations and directions to further strengthen the Network; and
  • To better understand the available land tools and training packages for purposes of mainstreaming, adoption and possible piloting and roll out.

The 2-day partners’ meeting (15-16 November 2011), will include an opening address by the Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, presentation on GLTN’s achievements, challenges and future directions, break-out sessions to share priority programs and priorities related to GLTN agenda, decisions on IAB representations (by cluster) and break-out sessions on emerging thematic land issues.. Bilateral discussions, group meetings and networking are also encouraged particularly during breaks and/or before and after the agreed programme of the Partners’ meeting.

A half-day briefing/orientation session is further planned in the afternoon of the 14th November 2011 to showcase the available tools, products and training packages of GLTN.

The meeting will build on the experience and lessons learnt from the 3rd GLTN Partners Meeting in November 2009.

The meeting will be by invitation only. Interested organizations or individuals may contact the GLTN Secretariat to express their interest subject of their intention to fund themselves and further assessment of the Secretariat. The Meeting will be held at UN Gigiri Compound, Nairobi, Kenya.
