The Police Platform for Urban Development (PPDU) emerged in November 2009 as part of the strategy of UN-HABITAT in collaboration with the Institute for Public Security of Catalonia, the Swedish Police, the Montreal Police, UNODC and UNITAT to promote dialogue between police, city managers, actors and major urban development key groups to improve social cohesion and harmony in urban areas.
As part of PPUD activities for this year, UNHABITAT, the ISPC (Public Security Institute of Cataluña) and UNITAR and UN-HABITAT organize the workshop "Prevention with youth at risk. Urban management policies to social cohesion and public security", in Barcelona, 26th to 30th September. The workshop aims to reflect and discuss into following topics:
- The youth violence in urban settings in Latin America and Europe;
- To know the patterns and characteristics of this kind of violence;
- Analyze the relationships of young people and the civil society and governments;
- Discuss the role of the media into this phenomenon;
Looking to achieving a successful dialogue between the police and civil society, this training is also an opportunity for training and education for practitioners from both contexts, Latin-American and the European.
The three organizations are thus reinforcing their commitment to improving the role of the police, social actors and local authorities involved in preventing youth violence, with the aim of contributing to a better quality of life in cities and towns presenting this type of violence.

The participants to this workshop belong to extensive background group of professionals involved into the security and violent youth groups area in Latin-American and Europe including Police units, researches, ONG, local authorities, universities and Medias represents from Mexico, El Salvador, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, Colombia, EEE.UU, Switzerland, Spain. |
